2024 International Training Workshop on BeiDou Navigation Satellite System Kicks Off in Beijing
September 13, 2024
The 2024 International Training Workshop on BeiDou Navigation Satellite System (BDS) Technologies and Applications in the Belt and Road Regions kicked off in Beijing on September 3, 2024, welcoming 20 participants from countries including Mongolia, Egypt, Algeria, Nepal, Laos, Indonesia, Pakistan, Nigeria, Cambodia, Tunisia, Benin, and Eritrea.
Now in its seventh year, this annual training program is designed to deepen technical expertise and develop talent in satellite navigation systems, with a particular focus on the BDS. The initiative also aims to strengthen collaboration and knowledge exchange between China and the participating nations, supporting the broader adoption of BeiDou technology in the Belt and Road region and beyond.
Over the course of the two-week program, participants will engage in a series of specialized lectures, site visits, interactive sessions. The curriculum covers the development, application, and commercialization of the BDS, and explores innovative ways to integrate BDS with various industries.
As a cornerstone of modern spatiotemporal information infrastructure, Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS), including BDS, offer critical services to both public institutions and private individuals. The ongoing evolution of artificial intelligence (AI), mobile communications, and the mobile internet has significantly expanded GNSS applications. These range from their integration into World Cup footballs to becoming essential components in autonomous driving technologies. GNSS is also extending its reach into low and even high Earth orbit satellite navigation, positioning itself as a key driver of the digital economy. In this digital age, GNSS data is poised to become a vital energy source, fueling the growth of the global digital economy.
Since its inception in 2017, the BDS International Training Program has provided training to over 1,000 participants from more than 60 countries and regions. The program has been instrumental in strengthening technological ties among Belt and Road countries, fostering greater mutual understanding, and advancing the global adoption of BDS.
