Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank Experts Visit CBAS

On March 22, a team of experts from the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) visited the International Research Center of Big Data for Sustainable Development Goals (CBAS). The experts were invited for a tour on CBAS’ technical infrastructure including the SDG Big Data Platform and Satellite Operation, as well as the secretariats of several international organizations hosted by CBAS. The two parties then held meeting to exchange ideas on digital infrastructure, environment & climate, and investment decision-making powered by big data.
During the meeting, the AIIB experts were received by Dr. LIU Jie, deputy director of CBAS. She pointed out that CBAS has always been focusing on utilizing big data to uncover the potentials of sustainable development across environmental, economic, and societal dimensions. AIIB’s work in digital infrastructure, environmental policy & analysis, and sustainable investment are highly aligned with CBAS’ working priorities. The two parties expressed wishes for further collaboration on capacity building, joint research & reporting, as well as data simulation and forecasting that could result in concrete infrastructure investment actions and solutions in the field of big data for sustainable development.
Dr. Xiao Yuan, AIIB’s senior strategy and policy officer, expressed on behalf of the experts, their gratitude and congratulation on CBAS’ achievement throughout the years, highlighting CBAS’ contribution to international scientific cooperation and bridging the SDG data gap across different sectors. Both sides demonstrated willingness to follow-up with more collaborative activities and exchanges in the near future.
The meeting was moderated by Prof. Han Qunli, distinguished professor of CBAS and executive director of the Integrated Research on Disaster Risk-International Programme Office (IRDR-IPO), and was attended by 22 experts from AIIB, CBAS, IRDR, and Digital Belt & Roald Program (DBAR).
