The 4th Huangshan Dialogue on the preservation of UNESCO-listed heritage sites is underway in the city of Huangshan in central China's Anhui Province. The UN Satellite Center's director EINAR BJORGO sat down with CGTN during the event to discuss the role of satellites in the preservation of heritage sites.
ZHENG YIBING CGTN Reporter "Thank you so much for receiving our interview. This year's dialogue focuses on the importance of digital technology, especially those related with the satellites. So, what kind of role satellite plays in preserving and protecting the world heritage sites? And in related fields?"
EINAR BJORGO Director, UN Satellite Centre "I think it's first you can go back in time you can monitor the sites. You can see how they developed over time, and you can also have very much up-to-date information of the sites and also to see, as I mentioned in natural disasters, if they are affected or not. So, I think a lot happened in this industry lately and also China is launching many satellites that we look forward to using. So, you know, we are looking forward to seeing how we can further develop the cooperation with China."
ZHENG YIBING CGTN Reporter "Can you share with us the details of the sector, the progress, and achievements of the satellites imagery in preserving the heritage sites and any challenges and difficulties?"
EINAR BJORGO Director, UN Satellite Center "The challenges I see is more at opportunities, but there are some challenges. How soon can you get information? But that is also improving a lot these days before we took 3 weeks before we can get an image. Now we have it within a day at least. So that is also something that is really improving, making sure that we develop good partnerships. That's also very important because as I said, no one can do it alone. I think that's from both sides, it's very, very important to be able to work in partnerships."
