The World Data System (WDS) Scientific Committee recently appointed Dr. ZHANG Lianchong from the Aerospace Information Research Institute (AIR) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences as the WDS Early Career Researcher and Scientist (WDS-ECR) Network new co-chair starting July 1, 2020. It is also the first Chinese scientist to chair this network.
Dr. Zhang received his PhD degree in Signal and Information Processing in 2019 from the Institute of Remote Sensing and Digital Earth of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and then worked as a post-doctoral fellow at AIR. As the deputy director of National Earth Observation Data Center (NODA), Dr. Zhang has designed a framework to implement Earth observation data applications in the age of cloud services. He is also a major leader in ChinaGEOSS Data Sharing Network and making a constant effort to promote Earth observation data Chinese Earth Observation Analysis Ready Data (ARD) open accessible to the public.
The WDS-ECR network comprises of a group of self-defined early career researchers and scientists committed to advancing data stewardship and best practices in data management. The network aims to connect ECRs across scientific communities and disciplines to foster collaboration and active participation in developing innovative approaches to data integration and sharing. According to the rule, the co-chair will alternately join the WDS Scientific Committee as the WDS-ECR network Representative.
