AIR, UFRN Sign MOU to Collaborate on Earth Observations

On July 8, 2024, the Aerospace Information Research Institute (AIR), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) in Beijing with the Federal University of Rio Grande Do Norte (UFRN) of Brazil to boost further collaboration.

The MOU aims to establish a broad mutual cooperation between AIR and UFRN and promote the exchange of professors and researchers to foster academic, scientific, cultural and social relations between the two parties in the field of Earth Observations.  

At the signing ceremony, Prof. ZHANG Bing, Deputy Director of AIR noted that this year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Brazil and highlighted the over 30-year history of space cooperation between the two countries. He expressed hope that the visit by the UFRN delegation would continue the friendship between China and Brazil and mark the beginning of future cooperation. 

Prof. Dr. José Daniel Diniz Melo, President of UFRN introduced UFRN’s unique geographical environment and distinctive education philosophy. He also expressed the desire for the two parties to further strengthen scientific and technological cooperation in the fields of aerospace information. 

The collaboration between AIR and UFRN is part of the "key Technology for Chinese Satellite Analysis Ready Data" program, supported by the International Cooperation Project of the National Key Research and Development Program of China.
