National Engineering Research Center for Remote Sensing Satellite Applications Unveils in Beijing

October 09, 2022

The National Engineering Research Center for Remote Sensing Satellite Applications was unveiled in Beijing on September 27, 2022, according to the Aerospace Information Research Institute (AIR), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS).

Meanwhile, a supportive platform for the common technology application of Land Observation Satellites was announced to be completed, marking that China has built a large validation and calibration station network for the common technology applications of remote sensing satellite data products.

The platform as part of China's national Civil Space Infrastructure is the result of four years' efforts of the research center's predecessor, the National Engineering Laboratory for Remote Sensing Satellite Applications which was established in 2008.

The platform consists of 48 stations networking for validation of optical/microwave satellite products and six comprehensive experimental sites. With a focus on the generic and basic services of satellite remote sensing applications, the platform is capable of high-precision data processing and common technology services for more than 24 satellite data products, which can be applied in multiple fields such as ecosystem, agriculture, natural resources, and disaster prevention and reduction.
