Recruitment Notice for Postdoctoral Positions in the Electromagnetic Radiation and Detection Technology Laboratory of the Aerospace Information Research Institute (AIR), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS)
Release Date: 2024-07-05
Location:Beijing, China
Subject:magnetostrictive/piezoelectric composite materials and devices
I. Introduction
1.Reserach Topic
Magneto-electric (ME) heterostructures are exhibited as one important ramification in multiferroic sciences and technologies for next-generation electronic, electrical, sensing, and energy conversion devices. Magnetic and electric phases in such composites are separated to isolate the direct incompatibility between magnetic permeability and electric conductivity. The ME composite is the most desired concept to achieve enough strong ME couplings for practical applications, such as low noise sensors, solid-state converters, energy harvesters, and acoustically driven antennas. Transition metal-based metallic glasses have been tremendously used in those ME devices due to their superior magnetomechanical properties. The extremely low-noise (a few pT/Hz p @1Hz) ME sensor is relied on the Fe-based MG ribbons with high magnetostrictions and on the piezoelectric single crystals that have a low thermal-electric loss. The solid-state ME converters, assigned as ME gyrators, are able to achieve superiorly high efficiency (>90%) at their mechanical resonant frequencies by using Fe-based MGs. Moreover, very-low-frequency magnetic antennas can be designed by using layered ME laminates, assigned as a multiferroic antenna, a magneto-electric antenna, or an acoustically excited antenna, which depends on the nomenclature used by researchers. Such antennas are expected to reduce the size and weight, and to enhance the emission efficiency of VLF signals.
2. Institute and Laboratory
The Aerospace Information Research Institute (AIR) under the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) was established in July 2017, as a result of consolidating three CAS institutes: the Institute of Electronics (IECAS), the Institute of Remote Sensing and Digital Earth (RADI), and the Academy of Opto-Electronics (AOE). The merger highlights CAS efforts towards reformation of its R&D system to meet future S&T challenges.
The research team belongs to the Key Laboratory of Electromagnetic Radiation and Detection Technology at AIR, with over 10 years of research experience in the field of high-sensitivity magnetic field sensors, covering the design, manufacturing, and characterization of various types of magnetic field sensors, including induction, flux gates, magnetoelastic piezoelectric, and optical pumps. The team’s research activities span the entire research chain from material research and development, probe preparation and system testing, to the application of magnetic sensing technology.
3.Supervisor
Dr. Zhuang Xin, Associate Researcher at AIR, holds a master's degree in Signal and Circuit from the University of Western Brittany (2007-2009), and a PhD in Microelectronics and Nanoelectronics from the University of Caen Normandy (2009-2013). As a Frontline researcher, he participated in the heterostructural uncooled magnetic sensors project (2009-2012) and materials for transduction project (2015-2018) funded by DARPA, the magnetoelectric sensor project (2013-2015) funded by ONR-Global. His research interests include magnetic field sensors with high-sensitivity, magnetostrictive amorphous alloys, magnetoelectric composite materials, and new-brand devices with high-efficiency for electromagnetic radiation and detection technology.
