“Global Calibration Benchmark Network for Remote Sensors” Completed

May 09, 2022

A Global Calibration Benchmark Network for Remote Sensors has passed the review and is now formally operational under the support of the Aerospace Information Research Institute (AIR), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS).

The network is established based on the National Calibration and Validation Site for High Resolution Remote Sensors (the Baotou site, for short). After upgrading, this site has been accepted as one of the four demonstration sites of global automated Radiometric Calibration Network (RadCalNet), and capable of providing calibration service of remote sensors for worldwide communities.

With the aid of this network, China has set up an important calibration infrastructure and scientific experiment platform geared to international standards.

With the completion of the network, China’s calibration research and operational calibration service capability has been obviously improved. It is capable of establishing wide collaboration with international top-level space agencies, metrological institutes, as well as domestic sensor development institutes and primary RS application agencies.

It also provides an important platform for China to collaborate with international communities in calibration scientific research and sharing calibration resources and facilitates China's remote sensing data and products entering international markets.
