AIR Completed Sino-Laos-Cambodia Beidou Satellite Positioning Application Demonstration Project

Dec 31, 2018

The Sino-Laos-Cambodia Beidou satellite positioning application demonstration project passed the acceptance-check by an expert panel of Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology on Dec. 13, 2018.

Led by Prof. LI Chuanrong, director of key laboratory of quantitative remote sensing information technology of AIRCAS, the project was jointly completed by experts from both Chinese and foreign organizations, including the Center of Information and Statistics under the Lao Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, the Public Health Institute of Lao Ministry of Health, Interior Ministry of Cambodia and Khmer Group Co., Ltd.

To satisfy the urgent demand of Laos and Cambodia in satellite positioning, the project has set up China’s first 2 overseas reference station system of Beidou satellites, and 15 portable terminal systems. Its outputs are being used in three demonstrative areas, including precision management of farmland based on 3S technology, schistosome monitoring based on remote sensing and navigation guidance and positioning system, and police management based on location service. The project was completed in record time way and provided systematic training to professionals from different countries such as Cambodia, the Laos, Thailand, Brunei, Singapore, Burma and Malaysia.

The project remarkably improved the application capacity of remote sensing technology and satellite positioning for Lao and Cambodia, and developed a stable cooperation team to facilitate the overseas promotion of Beidou Satellites.
