Dr. WANG Ningbo Elected as IGS RT-WG Vice-Chair

Jan 19, 2023

According to the International Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) Service (IGS), WANG Ningbo was elected as the vice-chair during the chair / vice chair election of its Real-Time Working Group (RT-WG) held in December 2022.

Dr. WANG Ningbo is currently working at the Aerospace Information Research Institute (AIR) with the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) as an Associate Professor. His research focuses on multi-GNSS analysis and processing, especially the use of real-time GNSS technique for precise positioning, ionospheric analysis as well as collaborative positioning. He is head of the GNSS collaborative navigation group at AIR-CAS, and chairs CAS Ionosphere Associate Analysis Center as well as Real-Time GNSS Analysis Center of the International GNSS Service (IGS).

The International GNSS service, formerly known as the International GPS Service, is formed by the International Association of Geodesy (IAG) in 1993 to support satellite navigation and geodetic scientific applications. Its main responsibility is to release free GNSS data and precise products to users worldwide, providing data support for the International Terrestrial Reference Frame (ITRF) maintenance, sea level change, and geodynamic research.

In the past 30 years since its establishment, IGS has played a great role in promoting the progress and cooperation in global satellite navigation community, and its members are all top research institutions in the field of global satellite navigation, e.g., the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in the USA, Center for Orbit Determination in Europe (CODE), German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) and European Space Agency (ESA).

The Real-Time Working Group established in 2001 is concerned with the technologies, standards and infrastructure related to high accuracy real-time GNSS applications. It is dedicated to provide open data, open products and open standards for real-time users to the GNSS community. The RT-WG aims at maintaining high quality data and providing high precision products that are state-of-the-art.

The GNSS collaborative navigation group of AIR-CAS initiated real-time GNSS analysis since 2013 leading by Prof. Zishen Li. BeiDou is the China抯 global navigation satellite system, in comparable with the Global Positioning System (GPS) of USA, the Global Navigation Satellite System (GLONASS) of Russia, and the European抯 global navigation satellite system (Galileo).

The participation in the race of IGS RT-WG chair will further broaden the international collaboration network of GNSS collaborative navigation group itself as well as AIR/CAS in the field of satellite navigation, which also lays a solid foundation for promoting the integration of BDS precise data and products into the IGS framework.
