AIR Launches International Program on Pan-Pan-Antarctic Ecology and Environment Research

The "Pan-Antarctic Ecology and Environmental Spatial Observation and Three-Pole Comparative Study", an international cooperation program supported by the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) was launched on April 28 in the form of an on-line workshop.

The event has brought over 30 participants from 8 institutions from Argentina and China, including Instituto Antartico Argentino (IAA), Central Austral de Investigaciones Cientificas (CADIC), and National University of Tierra del Fuego, and Antarctica and South Atlantic Islands (UNTDF) as well as the Aerospace Information Research Institute (AIR) and its domestic partners.

SUN Hui from the CAS International Cooperation Bureau, was invited to deliver the opening speech. Prof. ZHANG Bing, Deputy Director of AIR, Dr. Gustavo Ferreyra, Director of CADIC, Prof. Adriana Urciuolo, Vice-rector of UNTDF, and Dr. Lucas Ruberto from IAA delivered speeches, introducing their research in Antarctic research.

Prof. LI Xinwu, PI of the project, introduced the implementation plan. Dr. Marinsek Sebastian, Dr. Gustavo Ferreyra and Prof. Adriana Urciuolo from IAA, CADIC and UNTDF respectively introduced their efforts the Pan-Antarctic research, as well as their ideas on the cooperation.

Prof. ZHANG Bing made a closing speech, hoping to further strengthen the in-depth academic exchanges with the Argentine partners, and deepen the all-round cooperation between the two sides around key areas such as Antarctic and comparative polar studies.

Supported by the program, China and Argentina will jointly build an international cooperation framework and academic exchange platform for the study of Pan-Antarctic ecological environment changes and build a Pan-Antarctic data information service and data sharing platform to contribute to environmental change programs and sustainable development.
