BeiDou Application International Training Center Inaugurated in Beijing
The inauguration ceremony of “Belt and Road” BeiDou Application International Training Center was held in Beijing on September 7, coinciding with the opening ceremony of the 2021 International Training Course on BDS Technologies and Applications for “Belt and Road” participating countries.
The onsite event brought over 50 participants, including CAI Lanbo, former Chief Engineer of China Satellite Navigation Office, Palitha Kohona, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to China, Xu Guanqun from China Association for Science and Technology, and WU Haitao, Deputy Director of the Aerospace Information Research Institute (AIR), Chinese Academy of Sciences.
According to Prof. WU Haitao, Deputy Director of AIR, the training center is supported a program launched by China Association for Science and Technology program to link China’s scientists with S&T communities in the “Belt and Road” countries. The training center is an effort to promote joint research and training on satellite navigation technologies and applications in these countries.
WU hoped that the training center become an important platform for BDS to deliver BDS technologies to the countries along the Belt and Road and to boost international exchanges and cooperation.
XU Guanqun held that China Association for Science and Technology has been engaged in creating an international collaboration platform for S&T organizations in Belt and Road countries since the inception of Belt and Road initiative in 2016. He also pointed out that platform has supported 152 projects.
The 2021 International Workshop on BDS Technologies and Applications, as the fourth session of BeiDou training course series was organized by Academic Exchange Center of China Satellite Navigation Office.
The two-week training course, in the form of both online and onsite, was attended by 127 trainees from 28 countries and regions.
Currently, BeiDou-related products have been exported to more than 120 countries and regions, providing services to more than 100 million users.
